Some of that work points toward growth: a new market, a sharper offer, a brand that finally matches the work. Some of it points somewhere quieter: the parts of a job that have become routine enough to hand to an AI-native system instead of a person, and the hours that frees up. Done properly, either shows up on a P&L. Memos don't move that number.
Where it makes sense, the plan and the build come from the same place. A recommendation gets tested by actually building the thing, not by asking a client to trust a slide.
The same logic extends to software as much as labor. Most businesses have quietly assembled a stack of subscriptions: a CRM here, a support desk there, a workflow tool for whatever fell through the cracks. Each billed by the seat, each doing part of the job, and none of them actually talking to each other. The alternative isn't another subscription. It's one system, built to fit the business instead of bending the business to fit a template, by the same practice that diagnosed the need for it, builds it, and stays on to keep it running and secure.
Lower than the stack of tools it replaces. Lower than retaining a large firm to build the same thing and walk away. That gap only opened recently: AI-native tooling now lets a small practice build and maintain what used to require a platform vendor's engineering org, and it won't stay this wide for long.
